Learn to Play Day - Sunday 25th June June 16, 2017 14:14

It's Learn to Play Day time again! Learn to Play Day is UK charity Music For All's flagship event and will be taking place nationwide on Sunday, 25th June. Sutton Music Centre will be participating in this fantastic event for the fifth year in a row!

We'll be hosting FREE twenty minute introductory lessons for Guitar, Piano and Drums. So if you've ever had an interest in tinkling the ivories, strumming your favourite song or getting behind a kit, our professional music teachers will be on hand to share their expertise.

We'll also have our ukulele tutor on hand to show you on a few ukulele chords while you wait! No need to book, simply drop into Sutton Music on Sunday 25th of June and we'll book you onto the next available session.

Also, everybody who takes part will be entered into a great prize draw, with the chance to win an Aria AU 250 all solid mahogany ukulele, worth £89! We'll be open from 11am to 4pm, so come on down and get involved!

Sutton Music Centre will be showcasing the range of Casio digital pianos at St Nicholas Shopping centre between Thursday 27th and Sunday 30th October . Developed in partnership with grand piano makers Bechstein the Grand Hybrid offers a feel and sound like no other digital piano. Demonstrations, guest performances and special offers will feature during the week so come along and try out a range of digital pianos for yourself.Come along for a FREE 15 minute taster piano lesson on Thursday, Friday, Saturday  or Sunday from 12 until 2pm.

Due to other work commitments, Julian, our choir and ukulele group leader is unable to start this term until Wednesday 27th April. Apologies for this as I'm sure everyone is keen to get back to having a regular Wednesday night of fun music making!

On Sunday 13th March 2016, the UK’s National Learn To Play Day returns and once again invites the general public to participate at music stores and venues across the country to have a free "taster" lesson on a musical instrument. 

Sutton Music Centre will be taking part by offering FREE 20 minute lessons for piano, drums and guitar between 10am and 4pm. Meet our tutors, get advice about learning and choosing the right instrument, enter our prize draw and listen to some live performances. Lessons will be taken by our experienced tutors in Sutton Music Centre’s purpose built teaching studios and there’s no need to book, just turn up and have fun taking part. Children and Adults are welcome so if you’ve always wanted to have a try at learning an instrument this is your chance. 

The fifth National Learn To Play Day promises to be the biggest one ever. It is expected to provide over 10,000 FREE lessons delivered by fully qualified music teachers on a range of instruments all over the UK on the day. There will be more venues taking part, more events being held, more celebrities supporting the day and even more FREE music taster lessons. The National Learn To Play Day is the ideal way to start, or get back into, playing a musical instrument, whatever you would like to play.

Sutton Music is very excited about welcoming the very talented band Flats & Sharps to the store on Monday 15th February for an impromptu gig. The 5 piece are launching their new album ‘King of my Mind’ with some tour dates and we’re lucky enough to have them drop by enroute from Cornwall. Described as a band that’s mixing up the folk world with echoes of Hayseed Dixie and Mumford and Sons they throw in beautiful five piece harmonies and a splash of bluegrass. Ukulele Club, Wednesdays 7pm-7.50pm January 18, 2016 22:12

Come along to our new fun group sessions for ukulele led by Julian Butler. Julian is a very talented, singer, pianist, guitarist, drummer, composer and musical director. He will be leading some simple arrangements of contemporary and classic songs, teaching chords and technique for beginners to intermediate players. Even if you are a complete beginner the classes will start off with simple technique and chords. As the weeks progress we will expand into new material.

The first session will be on Wednesday January 20th, 7pm until 7.50pm. It costs £7.50 session and you can pay each week. It is open to anyone over 12 years old and we hope to build a social, friendly group of approximately 10 enthusiastic ukulele players!

Candidates that are able to play piano to a good standard would be prefered. The ability to play another instrument is an advantage.
To start asap, the position is full-time (37 hours) including weekends.

We have group lessons for Piano, Guitar, Drums and Bass. Lessons start from £12 per 50 minute lesson. Book a course and pay the complete balance by August 31st to get one free lesson. To reserve your place you can pay a deposit of £50.

Casio Keyboard Day - Saturday May 2nd April 29, 2015 11:01

We are fortunate to have Casio artist, educator and product expert Chris Stanbury at Sutton Music on Saturday May 2nd from 10am until 3pm.
Chris will be playing the Casio models we have on the shop floor and explaining the key features. He is a very experienced player and educator who is happy to share his knowledge to all. He will be playing and answering questions from 10am.

Learn to Play Day , March 21st & 22nd. 
 
We are once again taking part in the National Learn to Play Day. It’s a fantastic opportunity to have a go at playing an instrument and experience the fun of making music. We will have our experienced teachers on hand to introduce some basics to beginners or even pass on some top tips to more accomplished players. We will have FREE 20 minute taster lessons on offer for piano, drums and guitar. 
 
There’s no need to book just come along and we’ll get you on the first available slot. We are extending the event to two days this year. On Saturday 21st we will be in St Nicholas Shopping Centre (by Debenhams ground floor entrance) between 11am and 3pm.
 
On Sunday 22nd we’ll be giving lessons in our on site teaching rooms (35 St Nicholas Way) between 11am and 4pm. 
 
We’ll also have special offers in store along with discounts on our Summer term courses. Come along and have a go!

Work on song writing ideas to create an original song in 2 hours! Top tips on common

Introduction to Guitar performance 12-16 year olds. £38 per person.
This workshop covers guitar playing, singing, songwriting and performance skills. Write an
original song collectively and perform a cover. Work on singing, guitar technique and
develop performance skills.
Includes a recording of your performance in our studio.

On Sunday 28th we're going to have one of our sound isolated studios dedicated to PA equipment. We'll have Damon Crisp from DBTechnologies on hand to offer advice and of course there will be some very special deals. If you're looking for a new PA system this the opportunity to compare different speakers and grab a bargain!
We're also offering FREE PAT testing on PA and electrical music equipment. From 11.30am - 3.30pm you can bring your equipment (maximum 4 items per person) and we'll test them while you wait.

Sutton Music is supporting the Enjoy Sutton Live Music Project throughout November and December. This exciting project is encouraging Live music in Sutton’s town centre on every Wednesday & Thursday.
 
Please support live music by going along to a gig or too, it’s FREE!!!! With out grass-roots venues (pubs & Bars) hosting live music there are severely limited opportunities for musicians to ‘cut their teeth’. The X’Factor generation will soon only be watching music on YouTube and the live music experience will no longer be inspiring and educating the young! Live Music needs YOU!

Come along and enjoy some great FREE music at one of our Sunday Sessions. We put up a small stage and lay out chairs to create an intimate gig right here in the store showroom. It’s a great opportunity to check out some very talented musicians and pick up some tips! Come along between 4pm and 5pm, every other Sunday.
 
Nov 9th – Karl Charity and Steve Ashworth. Two talented musicians perform a mix of well known and lesser known jazz songs. Karl is a very stylish singer and trumpet/flugelhorn player and will sooth you and excite you simultaneously.

For those that don't know about them, our Sunday Sessions are live music events that we run every fortnight. We set up our acoustic stage in the shop and rearrange the showroom to create it an intimate and relaxed gig. It really is a great way for children, who can't venture into an over 18's venue, to experience live music. If you’re learning an instrument there is always something you can gain from watching somebody perform up close. Entry is FREE and music starts between 4 and 4.15pm, finishing at 5pm. Why not arrange to meet some friends and enjoy a social with some great music!

Sutton Music’s end of term concerts at Stanley Park High.
 
Our end of term concerts are nearly here!
I hope you are looking forward to seeing Sutton Music Centre’s ‘up and coming musicians’ perform this Tuesday and Wednesday (22nd & 23rd July). If you’re not sure which evening your child is performing please give us a call 020 8642 2838.

Participation is optional however we would encourage all our pupils to take part as the experience of performing is all part of becoming a good musician. We will be featuring guitarists, bassists and drummers together in groups to give them the experience of playing in an ensemble with support from the tutors . If your son or daughter is unable to make it please let us know as soon as possible so we can finalise the running order.

You are invited to attend with friends and family members. Tickets are available in the shop £5 each. This includes a £5 off voucher (on purchases over £20) which you can use towards the next course or other purchases.
 
Please arrive at 6pm so the performers can tune up and get ready. The gig starts at 6.30pm and should be finished by 8.45pm. There will be an interval where drinks will be available from the cafe.

The address of Stanley Park High is Damson Way, Carshalton, SM5 4NS. Parking is available on the roads approaching the school however if you wish to park in the school car park you should approach from Metcalfe Avenue.
To get into the school walk around to the right of the building and use the rear entrance.

Burton Bradstock is the stylistic alter ego of multi-instrumental musicians and composers Jimmy Cannon and Dorian Ford.
Burton Bradstock re-imagines, re-vitalises and seeks to generate a widespread renaissance in the traditional English song. Drawing on their extensive and rich experience in performing jazz, classical, folk, pop and world music, Burton Bradstock are bringing all these elements to brand new settings of English folk songs with subtlety and integrity. 
Dorian and Jimmy will be joined on this occasion the explosive talents of Nia Lynn and Oroh Angiama.
